Lack of Fiber
Carrot is very rich in fiber but the process of juice making removes all the fiber. The sieved out portion of the juice contains the fiber and what we are left are just sugar and soluble fiber.
This is why some health experts argue that carrot juice is not as nutritious as whole carrots. You can have a deficiency in fiber if you only take carrot juice and not the whole carrot. Change in Skin Color
Excessive beta-carotene or carotenoid in the body can lead to yellowing of the skin and these phytonutrients are abundantly present in carrots. The main parts of your skin that are discolored are your hands, the soles of your feet, your palms, and your face.
This can be mistaken as sign of jaundice, a medical condition characterized by yellowing of the skin and eyes. A way to differentiate between these two conditions is to look at the eyes. If it is jaundice, both the white of your eyes and your skin will be yellow and you should seek medical attention immediately. You can also consult your doctor if your skin is turning yellow so that you can be safe and the main problem can be diagnosed.
Other Less Common Side Effects of Carrot Juice
- Few studies have shown that carrots are not safe for little children. You can give them small portions but let it not be too much to prevent problems.
- Some individuals are allergic to carrot. However, this is rare though. Carrot juice can cause some side effects like diarrhea, skin rashes, swelling, hives, and anaphylactic reactions.

- Cravings for carrot have been reported in people who have formed the habit of taking carrots every day. Whenever they try to stop, it gives some withdrawal effects like insomnia, water brash, irritability, and nervousness.
- Some studies have shown that carrot changes the flavor of breast milk and therefore breastfeeding mothers should not take carrot juice in excess.
- There are some diseases that the symptoms get worse when carrot juice is taken and some of them are diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, hormonal problems, and hypoglycemia.
How to Prevent These Side Effects
One of the ways to prevent this is by taking varieties of fruit juices and smoothies. You can get vitamin A and other essential nutrients present in carrots in other fruits and vegetables.
Carrots shouldn’t be the only vegetable in your meals daily; use varieties of vegetables. This should include dark green vegetables, starchy vegetables, and legumes.
You will get a lot of nutrients not present in carrot juice including fiber. If you must take carrots every day, then take whole carrots more than juicing them and cooked carrots are more nutritious than raw carrots.
